Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed as a structural analog of tuftsin, an endogenous immunoglobulin-derived tetrapeptide. In rat studies, a single intraperitoneal dose was associated with attenuation of naloxone-precipitated morphine-withdrawal behavioral indices, and separate rat studies examined its association with hippocampal and prefrontal-cortex BDNF content in an ethanol-exposure memory model. Proposed mechanisms under investigation include GABAergic signaling and enkephalin-degrading enzyme activity, though a fully characterized receptor target has not been established. It is presented here as a reference compound in tuftsin-analog and stress-behavior pharmacology research. Research in this area is concentrated within a single research lineage and remains in rodent model systems.
